How do you season a cast iron camp oven?

Before using your camp oven, it’s important to properly season it. This prepares the cast iron surface for cooking, preventing rust from building up and ensuring that your food doesn’t stick. Start by lightly coating your cast iron camp oven in oil and wiping it thoroughly with a paper towel or cloth, ensuring you get into all the corners. Then, expose your camp oven to a high temperature for around 45 minutes to 1 hour - this locks the oil onto the surface, creating a protective layer. Aim for 200°C to 270°C and avoid overheating your cast oven - if it develops a red glow, then you run the risk of the shape of the metal changing.
